Website redesign
for a school
of creativity
School with acting courses and creative activities for adults and children

The task

Complete redesign of the website with a focus on making it brighter and more colorful, while maintaining a balance to avoid a fully childlike style, as the school also offers courses for adults. The site should feature intuitive navigation, a section dedicated to the school’s story and values, and up-to-date information on available courses

About project

New Roles is a school focused on the creative development of students, offering a pleasant and productive way to spend time. Located in Mytishchi, the school provides classes in acting, creativity for kids, chess, and dance

What was done

  1. Conducted an interview with the client and analyzed the target audience and competitors
  2. Proposed the site structure
  3. Wrote the content and created a prototype based on the structure
  4. Selected visual solutions and compiled them into a mood board
  5. Designed the site based on the approved references
  6. Developed the site layout with adaptive versions and optimized it for SEO

Website before redesign

The client created the first version of the website almost entirely on their own. At the time, the school had just opened, and the goal was to gauge how well the new business idea would resonate with the local community. This approach worked well as a starting strategy for a new business. However, the updated website needed to address all its shortcomings, ensuring it was user-friendly, emotionally engaging for visitors, and effective in attracting new clients
The main problems of the previous site
Pros of the chosen strategy
  • Inconvenient structure: The main page contains information about the school and a general description of all the courses, making it difficult for users to find details about a specific course.
  • Lack of emotional connection: The site is purely informational and fails to evoke any emotions.
  • Missing course details: While the site mentions the existence of classes, it doesn’t provide comprehensive information about them.
  • No cohesive design concept: The site lacks a unified design that conveys the school’s mood and values.
  • Disorganized content: Key information is scattered. For example, a single paragraph might include general details about a course and its benefits, while the pricing is located on a completely different page.
  • The school has a clear understanding of its positioning and brand identity.
  • Internal processes are well-established; the focus now is on presenting them in an appealing and professional way.
  • There are existing materials for the site, including photos, course details, and texts from the previous site that can serve as drafts.
  • The school is familiar with its target audience and understands what matters most to its clients, which provides a solid foundation for creating user-focused content

Analysis of competitors and target audience

I analyzed similar schools in Mytishchi and identified the main issues with their websites to avoid these mistakes on ours. This included reviewing both the design and the structure and text. This approach allows us to learn from others' shortcomings and stand out in the niche.

The main problems on competitors' websites include:
  • Outdated design
  • Poorly developed structure
  • Dry, uninspiring text
  • Poor typography (text is not formatted in an easy-to-read manner)
We also conducted a study of the target audience and identified their key values and concerns. Potential clients are looking for schools where children feel at ease, where teachers are not only experts in their field but also skilled at building rapport with children. They value classes that address common childhood challenges such as shyness, excessive screen time, difficulty making friends, and boredom during free time.
As a result, I prepared a comprehensive presentation with conclusions and ideas for the future website

Website structure

The website includes 12 pages: a main page highlighting the school’s values and advantages, 10 dedicated course pages providing all relevant information, and an events page that can be updated independently without requiring the help of specialists

Texts

The text needed to convey the love and passion behind the educational process. The brand voice—a friendly and caring tone—was crafted to foster a warm connection with its customers
It was equally important to provide comprehensive information about the school, its courses, and its values to attract clients who share similar perspectives. As a result of this stage, I delivered a complete prototype of the site, including all pages and carefully crafted texts aligned with the structure

Mood board and design concept

The main request for the design was to add colors and make the site brighter. Based on this request and the niche analysis, I prepared a presentation with references from web and graphic design. During the approval of the future style, the client mentioned that she did not want the site to be overly bright in a childish way, as the school also offers courses for adults
That’s why we selected the main reference, combining both requests. It had a cinematic feel with a touch of seriousness, complemented by bright circles, typical of children’s fun. We also coordinated the fonts and colors. For the circles, we chose a range of basic colors: yellow, green, blue, and red. The main color of the site is a restrained beige.

Design

In addition to the colored circles in the design, I wanted to make references to the school’s niche itself. The flagman course is "Actor in Drama Theater," so the main themes are theater, cinema, and everything related to them. This is how text pads appeared in the form of dialog boxes, filmstrips, and sheets of paper with text written on them
For dynamics, I added an animation for the text appearance and a scrolling effect for the filmstrips. Additionally, the courses on the main page can be filtered based on the students' age

Development
The site was built on the Tilda platform, with all adaptive versions developed to ensure that the animation was suitable for each screen size. The client was very pleased with the result and left a positive review
