Website
for a sewing
factory
development

The task

To make a landing page for a sewing factory from scratch. There were no photos, logo, or texts. The website was needed to establish the company’s online presence, allowing people to learn about the factory, its services, and its values remotely

About project

Balakirevskaya Manufactory is the largest sewing factory in the Vladimir region. It works with large orders in the B2B, B2C and B2G sectors

What was done

  1. I conducted an interview with the client, analyzed the target audience and competitors, and proposed a website structure
  2. I wrote the texts and designed a prototype based on this structure.
  3. I selected visual solutions for the design and compiled them into a moodboard.
  4. I created a specification for photo and video shoots, including references and video instructions.
  5. I processed the photos and edited the videos for display.
  6. I also created sewing illustrations for the website. Using these illustrations, photos, and videos, I designed the website.
  7. I worked with a graphic designer to create a logo in the website's style, helping to draft the specifications and supervise the logo creation.
  8. Finally, I laid out the website with adaptive versions and optimized it for SEO

Analysis of competitors and target audience

The competitors' websites were quite similar to each other—they followed a standard layout template, with most sites being either white or gray, with small red or green accents. The text was poorly designed—either a long article filling the entire page or generic phrases copied across multiple sites. It was important to stand out among the sea of similar websites and infuse some emotion into the design
Through target audience analysis, we identified the key information important to potential buyers and reflected it in the texts and photos on the website (such as the services offered, whether they sign contracts, and the quality of tailoring). After presenting the findings of the marketing research, I proposed a structure that would address the primary needs of the target audience

Copywriting and prototyping

Through the texts on the website, we aimed to create the impression that this factory is trustworthy. Therefore, we developed a mature yet caring brand voice that isn’t afraid to make a strong statement about itself. This is reflected in headlines like 'A Garment Factory You Can Rely On,' 'What We Can Do,' and 'We Care About the Working Conditions of Our Employees…'
It was also important to address all potential customer questions and explain how cooperation is structured, as well as what additional services the factory can provide. The client also requested the addition of a section with job vacancies at the factory

Moodboard and references

After the prototype was approved, I prepared a presentation with design ideas—a mood board. In addition to the photos on the website, we decided to incorporate sewing-related elements such as scissors, needles, threads, and patterns into the design. At this stage, I suggested fonts and colors for the website, explained the mood they would convey, and how they would complement the factory photos. The client chose the options that appealed to her
For the website cover, I suggested using short videos showcasing the factory. This technique would increase user retention on the website, as moving elements naturally catch the eye and encourage closer inspection. I provided references for the videos and photos and explained the key points for the shoot (such as how to frame the shot and which angles would work best in each situation). Since the customer planned to handle the shooting herself without hiring a photographer

Preparing for website design

Before starting the design, I edited the video for the cover and processed the photos. For some photos, basic color correction and cropping were sufficient. However, for the photos showcasing the factory’s work, I aimed to achieve a more polished, studio-like appearance. The client took these photos against a white fabric background, as I had requested for a clean, plain backdrop
However, creases and wrinkles were visible on the background, which made the garments appear wrinkled and sloppy. To improve the presentation of the finished garments, I replaced the background in the photos

Design

The client chose a plan without animations, so it was necessary to create a beautiful static design. The main focus of the site was a complex grid—lines along which the content was arranged. Websites with content aligned along the left edge often look boring and templated, so we aimed to avoid that in order to stand out from the competition. The complex grid was complemented by large typography. The client preferred a serif font to emphasize the brand’s seriousness and add a touch of elegance with the use of italics
The main color of the site is gray-blue. Firstly, it stands out against the white backgrounds of competitors' sites. Secondly, blue is associated with reliability and stability, which we wanted to convey to our clients. The theme of the site is reinforced by photographs of the factory. It’s important for potential clients to understand that they are working with an organization that operates 'in the clear.' Additionally, it’s crucial to highlight that the factory meets workplace standards—featuring modern equipment, a safe environment, and ample lighting
To emphasize that this is a sewing factory website, I incorporated illustrations and visual elements from the sewing industry. That’s why the blocks include buttons, needles, and threads
The dotted line on the website is a reference to a sewing stitch. Additionally, there’s a block featuring patterns and details of the future product. The block itself is dark blue, symbolizing the fabric on which markings for the patterns are made

Excellent impressions from working with Karina! She is fast, professional, creative, and has a clear, efficient, and humane approach. Thank you so much, Karina! What seemed complicated and unclear at first was quickly and efficiently created and implemented. Karina is an excellent specialist! She quickly understood the task and completed it creatively and promptly.
We are grateful for the collaboration. Everything was clear on her end, while we were a bit slow with deadlines on our side. Communication, task transfer, and formalization were all done perfectly. Everything was completed on time and in the best possible way!
I highly recommend Karina as a professional in her field. This is not the first time I've worked with her, and that speaks volumes about how much I enjoy collaborating with her. The work is always done comfortably, clearly, and within deadlines. She offers an original approach to every project, and the results always exceed expectations.
